Oliver Wendell Holmes letters, 1871-1877.

The collection consists of two letters: to Clayton MacMichael, 17 Dec. 1871, with gracious regrets that he cannot attend a reception for George H. Boker, and praise for Boker; to E.C. Stedman, 28 June 1877, explaining that he was unable to attend Stedman's recent poetry reading due to overwhelming responsibilities, and suggesting that the poem's virtues were as enjoyable in a quiet reading as in a performance.
